10 ways you can actually make a difference in 2019

Stop being so f***ing ignorant

Making a post with a prayer hashtag won’t cut it in 2019. The world needs us all to pitch in and do our part. When the clock strikes midnight, it’s time to tell yourself to stop being so naive and realise that your actions have a domino effect.
Here are 10 ways that can actually make a positive change in the world.

1. Hold a blood drive

One blood donation can save up to three lives. Bring all your friends together by planning a blood drive and save more lives then you could imagine. You can do this by contacting Australian Red Cross at 13 14 95.

2.  Donate your old threads

Sift through your closet and donate those threads that you no longer wear. Someone else will appreciate it, if it’s not the op-shop loving Uni student then it definitely will be the charity that the profits of sales go to. It not only helps those in need, but it also contributes to help decrease the amount of landfill in Australia.

3. Clean up the beach

Before a dip in the ocean, collect rubbish you see on the beach. You’d be surprised with the amount of flotsam and jetsam that get washed up along the shore.

4.  Rethink your birthday

We all love getting spoilt on our birthday, but perhaps rather than letting your friends and family drown you in gifts that you probably don’t need, encourage them to donate to a charity of your choice.

5.  Adopt or foster a furry friend

Around 130,000 dogs and 60,000 cats are euthanized in Australia each year due to lack of homes. Next year might be the chance to save a little creature’s life.

6.  Shop sustainable fashion

Fight fast-fashion! It’s always good to know you’re buying from places that pay their workers fair wages with safe working conditions. It will last longer in your wardrobe, and it may also support local designers and businesses.

7.  Donate your hair

Donate your long luscious hair to a charity that repurposes it for cancer patients.

8.  Shop cruelty-free products

Opt for cruelty-free skincare and make-up that make more than just your skin feel good. Next year try Glossier, Urban Decay, and Lush.

9.  Use reusable cups and straws

By 2050, studies predict that their will be more plastics in the ocean than fish by weight. Reduce your disposable plastic usage by investing in a reusable cup and straw.

10. Stop editing your photos online

Okay we don’t mean you can’t add a good VSCO filter, sure go crazy. But everyone needs to stop liquifying their bodies to be smaller or curvier than what they truly are. Forget about magazine’s portraying unrealistic body images, we’re all to blame.
