Will it take an Australian to break the Kardashian curse?

Last night while Netflixing and chilling, my boyfriend basically fell to his knees when the announcement was made that the Australian Philadelphia 76ers player, Ben Simmons, has started dating reality-star turned model, Kendall Jenner.

You may have heard of the 'Kardashian curse', a very strong superstition that circles around the NBA fan-base, that if a pro-athlete hooks up with a Kardashian/Jenner then it's the end of his career. It seem's a bit silly, doesn't it? But the proof is right there.

Before you start throwing away your fake Balinese 76ers jerseys, have a read through our timeline of our 'Kardashian Kurse' below. And just remember, if anyone can break the hex, we think an Aussie can.

The “Kardashian curse” is a phenomenon that dates back to 2000, when Kim Kardashian, 36, dated NFL player, Reggie Bush, 32. He became the very first running back to retire with negative yardage in NFL history.

Some even believe that the curse continued in 2003 when Ray J, 36, was blasted by the public after his 2007 sex tape with Kim was leaked. However, little did he know at the time that the critics were the least of his worries. Why? — Well, Kim’s career obviously skyrocketed after that, and some would argue that Ray J’s pretty much stood still…

But, let’s break this “curse” down.

1. Lamar Odom

Odom, a former NBA Lakers star who was named the NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 2011, wifed up Khloe in 2009 but has only really spiraled downward since their divorce.

During and after the couple’s short marriage, he admitted having been using drugs and cheating on Khloe. Odom was found in a coma due to drugs in October 2015 and nearly died. He suffered 12 strokes and had two heart attacks, according to USMagazine.

He’s also not in the NBA anymore.

2. James Harden

Khloe seems to be the one with the most NBA exes who played badly during or after their relationship.

James Harden plays for the Houston Rockets and blamed his relationship with Khloe for his terrible performance on the court. The two dated for eight months in 2015 and Harden referred to it at “the worst year of my life” as his team’s standings got lower and lower.

3. Tristan Thompson

Another NBA star on Khloe’s list has suffered at the hands of the Kardashian curse. After starting to date Khloe in 2016, the Cleveland Cavalier hasn't been doing too hot.

Thompson scored ZERO points in two games during the NBA Finals and ended up losing. “There are three things in life that are certain to me: Father Time, gravity, and the curse of the Kardashians,” said ESPN analyst Jalen Rose.

4. Kris Humphries

The man was married to Kim for 72 days in 2011 and quickly became the topic of many, many jokes. A basketball player, Humphries played for the Atlanta Hawks until signing with the Philadelphia 76s this year. But they waived him after he played just three preseason games.

5. Rashad McCants

McCants is another basketball star whose career was flipped by a Kardashian.

He played for the Minnesota Timberwolves while keeping up with Khloe. He blames her for his career not taking off, saying if he wasn't dating Khloe he could have been a “$60 (million to) $70 million player. Easily."

We'll say a prayer for you, Ben.
